What can therapy do for me?

Research shows that Emotionally Focused Couple’s Therapy (EFT) marriage counseling can help couples experience greater relationship satisfaction. Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR) for trauma counseling has also been clinically tested to help individuals overcome PTSD symptoms. EFT and EMDR are not the only types of therapy approaches our therapists utilize.  We offer many evidenced based models such as ACT, DBT, Play Therapy, and IFS to name a few.  The therapists at Crossroads Counseling provide individual counseling services for those who are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief and loss.  We also offer family counseling, child counseling, teen counseling, and group therapy.  We have locations that serve Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Phoenix and Anthem.  In short, counseling and therapy can help you have better, more satisfying relationships and live a happier, more fulfilling life.

What happens in the first session?

In your first session you will meet with one of our expert counselors who will assess your situation and identify a plan of action that will bring relief and answers to the issues that you are facing. Most our clients will need to attend more than one session in order to experience the success they are looking for. You and your therapist will work together to determine when you will meet again and how often you will need to meet to work on your relationship or personal issue.  Our initial sessions are typically 75 minutes in length to allow enough time for the intake process.  You may continue to meet for 75 minutes for an extended session after the intake session or you may decide to schedule a standard sessions are 45-5o minutes in length.  We also offer intensives anywhere from a half day, full day, to multiple days.

How long are sessions and how much do they cost?

Crossroads Family Counseling Center, LLC offers competitive rates for all of our sessions.  We offer standard therapy sessions that are 45 -50 minutes in length, intake and extended therapy sessions that are 75 minutes long, 30 minute brief therapy sessions, and intensive therapy sessions for those for whom this can be a benefit.  To learn more about the cost of marriage counseling, couples counseling, family counseling, child counseling, teen counseling, group therapy, intensive couples counseling, individual counseling, couples seminars and workshops, or any of the other types of services we offer please contact our office by calling 623-680-3486,texting 623-688-5115, or emailing info@crossroadsfcc.com

How does mental health insurance at Crossroads work?

Going to therapy is an important investment in your mental, emotional and  relational health.  Our rates vary based on the therapist and session length. We believe that cost should never get in the way of therapy which is why we offer competitive rates for our services starting at $75.00 per session.

Some of the therapists at Crossroads accept Aetna insurance for individual therapy.  This means that you may be able to utilize your Aetna health insurance benefits to receive mental health counseling.  To learn more about this option please contact our office at the numbers listed below.

For all other insurance plans, the therapists at Crossroads are considered out-of-network providers.  If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company MAY reimburse you for a percentage of the cost of therapy.  What this means is that if you want to utilize your insurance benefits the first step is to call our office, get matched with a therapist, and then follow up with your insurance plan to verify your out-of-network benefits.

There are important questions to ask your insurance plan when inquiring about out of network reimbursement.  They are:

Some important questions to ask your health insurance provider are:

Do my plan include mental health benefits?
Do I have a deductible and has it been met?
How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?
What does my plan cover per therapy session?
Do I need pre-approval from a primary care physician?

The final step in the out of network insurance billing process is to submit the Super Bill (this will be provided by the Crossroads billing team after your therapy session) to your insurance company.  A Super Bill, also known as a Statement for Insurance Reimbursement, is a document that our billing department can provide to you in order for you to be reimbursed by your insurance plan. A Super Bill provides additional information such as CPT codes and primary diagnosis codes that insurance companies require for reimbursement.

In summary, if you have Aetna mental health benefits we have therapists that can see you through your insurance plan.  If you do not have Aetna you can still work with a therapist at Crossroads and utilize your insurance plan.  The multi-step process involves checking to see if your insurance has an out of network provision, requesting Super Bills after the completion of your session, submitting the Super Bill to your insurance carrier, and then receiving reimbursement (reimbursement varies based on variables in your insurance plan) from your insurance company.  Therapists contracted Aetna are Anissa Hamlin.

Please note that intern therapists are not eligible for out of network billing or for direct billing with insurance.

If you need help navigating all of this please call us at 623-680-3486,text 623-688-5115, or email info@crossroadsfcc.com.  We’re more than happy to help you so that you focus on what matters the most:  your care and growth!

I want marriage or couples counseling.  What if my spouse or partner does not want to attend marriage or couples counseling?

If your spouse or partner does not want to attend couples or marriage counseling we encourage you to attend by yourself. We offer couples counseling for one for those whose spouse/partner will not attend or for those who would like to work on relationship dynamics without their spouse/partner present.  What we have learned is that you can benefit from relationship counseling by learning how to better improve your role within your marriage or relationship. Many of our clients find that they feel better and their relationship or marriage may also experience some positive improvements.  Please be aware that in most cases insurance does not reimburse for couples, marriage, or relationship counseling.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Forms of payment accepted are cash, check, and credit/debit (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) card processing.  Payment is due each session.  Health Savings Account (HSA) cards and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) cards are also accepted.

How many sessions will I need?

Length of sessions depends on several factors such as the level of distress in a marriage, relationship, family, or individual, and on the type of counseling you are receiving. For instance, research on the success of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy appears to move couples from distress to recovery in 10-15 sessions for 70-75% of cases, and creates improvements in 90% of couples coming in for therapy. EFT has been used with many different types of couples in private practice, university training centers, and hospital clinics. These distressed couples include partners suffering from disorders such as depression, post- traumatic stress, and chronic illness.

Research on the effectiveness of EMDR show that twenty positive controlled outcome studies have been done on EMDR.  Some of the studies show that 84%-90% of single-trauma victims no longer have post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD after only three 90-minute sessions. Another study, funded by the HMO Kaiser Permanente, found that 100% of the single-trauma victims and 77% of multiple trauma victims no longer were diagnosed with PTSD after only six 50-minute sessions. In another study, 77% of combat veterans were free of PTSD in 12 sessions. There has been so much research on EMDR that it is now recognized as an effective form of treatment for trauma and other disturbing experiences by organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association and the Department of Defense. Given the worldwide recognition as an effective treatment of trauma, you can easily see how EMDR would be effective in treating the “everyday” memories that are the reason people have low self-esteem, feelings of powerlessness, and all the myriad problems that bring them in for therapy. Over 70,000 clinicians throughout the world use EMDR therapy. Millions of people have been treated successfully over the past 20 years.
