Crossroad’s Counseling Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Statement of Faith

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.” I Peter 4:8

Mission

We help couples, families, and individuals connect with God, self, and others in authentic and vulnerable relationship and to experience freedom from brokenness through the discipline of psychotherapy and through the transforming grace and truth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Vision

Our vision is to be a dynamic group of “wounded healers” (Henri Nouwen) “full of the Holy Spirit and anointed to bring good news to the afflicted, healing to the brokenhearted, and to set the captives free” (Isaiah 61:1).

Core Values

Compassion

Crossroads Counseling believes in and practices compassion for others. We treat our clients with dignity, respect, empathy, and warmth.

Competence

Crossroads Counseling is committed to providing empirically validated and research-based models of therapy such as EFT, EMDR, ACT, DBT, IFS, and other models.  The therapists at Crossroads Counseling are highly skilled, trained, and effective at what they do.

Truth and Grace

John 1:14: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Like Jesus, who is the ultimate Healer and Counselor, the therapists at Crossroads Counseling seek to be “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

Crossroads Counseling is a place where others can experience God’s truth and His grace that He has given us salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Connection

Matthew 22:36-40: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

We are created to be connected in love with God, our neighbors, and ourselves.  In order to effectively help others we must be connected in love and support one another as Galatians 6:2 reads, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

Transformation

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Transformation is  possible through God.  Humankind is lost, powerless, and “dead in our sins and trespasses” Ephesians 2:1.  The starting point of change is to recognize that “God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5.

Statement of Faith

The Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God.  All psychological principles are to be weighed against the Bible; Scripture is the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks.

There is one God eternally existent in three persons:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  God is revealed in creation, history, and in Jesus Christ.

It is by the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. The Holy Spirit is fully God and is worshipped and glorified with the Father and Son. The Holy Spirit divinely inspired the scriptures, convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, leads Christ’s Church in truth and is the Teacher and Comforter sent by Jesus Christ.

Our beliefs are best summed up in the The Apostles Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The above expressed views are solely those of the practice owner.  It is understood that not all of the therapists or employees working at Crossroads or the clients we serve affirm these statements; it is also understood that agreement with the aforementioned statements are not necessary for employment or to receive psychotherapy services at Crossroads.

E. Stanley Jones, missionary to India, was quoted as saying:  “Here we enter a fellowship. Sometimes we will agree to differ, always we will resolve to love, and unite to serve.” This statement expresses my hope for Crossroads.  Above all, my hope is that we will love one another as Christ loves us, honor diversity among believers and non-believers alike, and extend liberty for each person to hold fast to his or her own conscience on what Christ has commanded. Perhaps this is best summarized by German theologian Rupertus Meldnius who wrote:

“In Essentials Unity

In Non-Essentials Liberty

In All Things Charity.”
