Michael Hutt MA, LPC LAMFT
Michael is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT) in the state of Arizona. He received his master’s degree in counseling from Ottawa University. He took additional classes obtaining a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as Christian Counseling. Prior to his counseling career, he worked as an electrical engineer. He changed careers after embracing his passion for interfacing with people and helping them address their personal needs.
Michael is drawn to models of therapy that are experiential. This means that he helps his clients get “out of their heads” and stop overthinking their situations. Michael has helped individuals in couples from a variety of different backgrounds, facing a wide range of challenges. He is particularly gifted in helping couples, survivors of violence, and men.
Individuals are often most vulnerable in the presence of their partner, they don’t attempt to hide their real selves. Michael recalls a counseling session early in his career where he met one on one with one spouse who was able to calmly describe the problems in the relationship. As soon as the other person of the couple entered the room the calmness seemed to disappear as the full picture emerged. Michael has been trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and utilizes this approach with with many of the couples he counsels. He has worked with couples with a variety of presenting problems, always striving to utilize his counseling as a means to increase emotional connection within the relationship.
Survivors of Violence
Michael is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). He was first introduced to this modality while working with victims of domestic violence. During this time he heard stories of unspeakable acts of violence that these individuals experienced throughout their life. He was incredibly touched as they began to develop trust and disclose the most difficult parts of their experiences to him. He has learned much about life through hearing their courageous stories of resilience and faith.
Michael enjoys working with men to help them experience more emotionally connected and satisfying lives. They often come to therapy at the prompting of a romantic partner. Many tell him that changes in therapy not only benefit their relationship at home but also help them at work. Michael has experience working with men on a variety of problems including anger, pornography, and other addictions.
