Kevin Nelson, MA, LAC-T
Kevin is a Licensed Associate Counselor. He recently received his master’s degree in counseling from Phoenix Seminary. He is committed to working with individuals and couples and is currently working with clients in the Scottsdale and North Phoenix offices.
Kevin is in his early sixties and has very diverse life experiences from being a Christian, parent, spouse, business executive, women’s advocate, and international businessman that he applies to work with clients from diverse backgrounds. He believes that therapy should provide a safe, understanding, trusting, and collaborative environment. You should feel supported and encouraged while exploring your feelings, thoughts, and plans for making changes that make you feel better. Therapy can often connect how past experiences show up in present circumstances, bring healing from past traumas, and help you become better equipped for the now and next.
Last year, he completed a six-month full-time clinical internship at The Meadows in Wickenburg working with addictions, anxiety, grief recovery, depression, bipolar and borderline personalities, and post-traumatic stress disorders. This included trauma work with childhood and adult physical abuse, sexual assaults, and combat. He is certified as an advanced facilitator by the Trauma Healing Institute. He has a level two certification in Gottman Couples Counseling and completed a couples counseling internship at the Scottsdale Bible Church Counseling Center earlier this year. His background also includes ten years as a board member and program developer for a domestic violence agency and eight years of lay counseling at Scottsdale Bible Church.
Kevin has been a committed Christian for decades and can incorporate faith into counseling work to the extent that it is desired by his client. He is a leader of a weekly men’s bible study, is active in global missions work in Africa and Asia, completed the Timothy Christian Leadership Development program at Scottsdale Bible Church, and received theological training at Phoenix Seminary. He has been married for more than 35 years, has three grown children, and two chocolate Labradors.
